I have never claimed to be the world’s best mom, even mediocre on some days is a stretch! BUT, one thing
that I am proud of is… Purple Drinks! These are, “green drinks” with berriesand red cabbage. These minor
tweaks to the rivaling green smoothie adds natural sugar AND the color purple; which means, my children
will drink them!
I figure, this is my one chance each day to get something extremely healthy past their finicky taste buds.
Some healthy goodness into our bodies. Every. Single. Morning. As for the rest of the day, there are no guarantees!
This isn’t a recipe, it’s a healthy habit that I want to share with you. I plan to continue the Purple Drinks throughout
the road trip and beyond. I make multiple bags at a time and put them in the freezer. Each night I take a bag from
the freezer and put it in the fridge to thaw. By the time the frozen mix meets the blender in the morning, it is the perfect
consistency and ice cold.
Fill up a freezer bad ¾ full using the following ingredients.
Ingredients include: (75% vegetables/25% fruit)
- Lime w/rind
- Red (or purple) cabbage
- Ginger root
Enjoy the benefits of Vitamins A, B, B6, B12, C, E, K, iron, potassium, magnesium, calcium, fiber, folate, folic acid, riboflavin,
antioxidants, niacin’s, omega-3’s, zinc and more!
-Chia seeds will add more protein, fiber and omega-3’s. I stir in a spoonful just before serving.
-Much of the ingredients is based on availability, season and personal taste.
-I purchase frozen organic berries and pineapple for convenience.
-Broccoli adds a foam-like texture (use in lesser amounts, unless you like foam). This is the same reason I don’t use apples.
-Because I hate to waste food, I add any produce that is about to go bad.
-There are no rules…add what you want!
-Feel like a superhero!
