Weeks 34 and 35: St. Augustine, Florida

Weeks 34 and 35: St. Augustine, Florida

Bingo, line dancing, campground bands and ice cream socials are awesome (especially in St. Augustine)!
Seriously, don’t judge me. I am going to make a really REALLY great retired person one day!

History lesson (you’re welcome): People have lived here since 1565! In school, many of us are taught that
Jamestown was the first settlement on American soil. Not the case. Jamestown was the first English settlement.
St. Augustine was the first Spanish settlement, many years earlier.

Highlights included:

Lizards, Turtles and Frogs… OH MY! The warm weather and unfamiliar animals have energized me!
Thank you, Mother Nature.

Every great city has “the street”, here St. George Street is the place to be. Great shops, restaurants, bars
and the oldest school house in the USA are just a few things to see alongside the many eclectic street performers.

We “enjoyed” a large sulfur-filled glass of water from the Fountain of Youth. Outside, we fed peanuts to
peacocks who have probably been living here for centuries assuming they are drinking the water!

Super Bowl Sunday! We snuck away for a day date to explore the San Sebastian Winery, St. Augustine Distillery
and a local brewery. We may have been the wacko’s walking in the rain with our boxes of booze back to our motor home
OR we may not have been. It’s anybody’s guess! St. Augustine has it’s share of touristy cheesiness, but it makes for
a perfect weekend get-a-way! A lot of entertainment and amazing food within a small radius.

Other day trips included: Anastasia Island, Castillo De San Marcos Fort, Whetstone Chocolate Factory, the beach,
the farmers’ market, coffee shops and Magnolia Street.

St. Augustine will always be the place where my “Intense Chicken” (Zoe’s new nickname) learned, and mastered, the
game of Slap Jack. She had us laughing so hard that people were walking by to see what we what was going on!

Lastly, I am SOOO excited to see my family tomorrow! My brother, sister-in-law and two nephews are flying out to meet
us in Orlando to get our Disney on and my mom will join us next week! Happy! Happy! Happy!
M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E, here we come!

XO
